The Blog That Really Hates Bush!
AMERICAblog, a liberal American blog founded by John Aravosis, is widely known for making cell phone privacy an issue by obtaining Gen. Wesley Clark’s call records. The blog focuses on political issues ranging from gay rights and the Iraq war to Bush administration scandals.
Tell us about America Blog team.
The core team is me, Joe Sudbay (a DC political strategist), Chris Ryan (a Paris-based tech consultant) and AJ (a former Defense Intelligence officer). We also have a Friday over-the-top column by political commentator Cliff Schecter.
What is your blog about?
US Politics.
How did you get started?
I just started blogging on my own about 3 years ago. I’d reached my limit of anger at Bush and decided to do something about it, started an account on blogger, and started writing.
What is the source of your content?
Well, we link to top, interesting news stories from around the Web, and interesting blog posts, and we do a lot of our own original commentary and even reporting.
How frequently do you write / post?
We publish a total of around 20 posts a day.
Does your blog generate revenue?
Mostly through blogads.
Who visits your blog? Tell us a little bit about your readers.
Well, from what we know, the average age is young 40s, more men than women (though that’s rather typical online), a fairly educated crowd, and a fairly politically active crowd as well.
Do you consider yourself successful in blogging? Why?
I think so. In that we have a good number of visitors, average around 100,000 a day (depending on the day), and I think we’ve had a good impact on a number of political issues, such as the Jeff Gannon story or the cell phone privacy issue (when I bought Gen. Wesley Clark’s cell phone records via some sham Web site).
Do you have another job?
Nope.
Any advice, suggestion, tips or a message you would like to give to other bloggers?
1. Write about what you know. 2. Write about what you have a passion for. Your audience will appreciate both.
