November 8, 2012
The purpose of this update is to tell you about God’s blessings to our church, to thank you for your hand in bringing those blessings about, to inform you of some of our ministries, and to communicate our church’s needs to those who are able to help.
Our blessings: Last year, in October, we sent out a letter where we solicited your prayers, financial assistance, and communicated our three goals as a church plant. We wanted to constitute as a church, call Richard Barcellos into the full-time ministry, and move into a public place for worship. The Lord God blessed us by bringing all three of these goals to fruition in 2012. Under the leadership of Trinity Reformed Baptist Church in La Mirada, CA, we constituted last spring and called Richard Barcellos as our pastor. In September, we started meeting in a conference room at The Palmdale Hotel.
Our thanks: You were the means our heavenly Father used to bring these blessings about in our lives. Our fellowship together has been sweet and our attendance has doubled from 25 to 50 because you have prayed for us. We were able to employ our pastor and move our morning meetings from his living room to a hotel because of your generous support. What churches and individuals around the world have sacrificed on our behalf has been a blessing to many here in Palmdale. Thank you.
Our ministry: We meet every Lord’s Day for morning and evening worship. Pastor Barcellos has preached a series of sermons on the Lord’s Supper as a means of grace and another longer series on creation. He hopes to start the Gospel of John in the morning and preach a series “Welcome to a Reformed Baptist Church” in the evening. On Thursday nights, a small group of our folks meet at Panera Bread to discuss Louis Berkhof’s A Summary of Christian Doctrine. Our website can be found at www.grbcav.org. We have had several visiting preachers this year–Pastors Jim Domm, Rob Ventura, Steve Marquedant, Brian Borgman, and Jim Butler. We are expecting Sam Renihan in December. Pastor Barcellos has spoken twice at the China Bridge Conference in Rosemead, CA, to a Chinese congregation. His subjects included Covenant Theology and the Ten Commandments and the Christian. He also spoke at the Southern California Reformed Baptist Pastors’ Conference in late October. Christian Focus Publications has contracted with our pastor to publish a book entitled The Lord’s Supper as a Means of Grace: More than a Memory. It should be out in 2013.
Our needs: Our membership has remained at 17 since last spring. Currently, we are able to fund 47% of our projected monthly budget for 2013. This is the same percentage as last year. We will need help from outside our church in order to continue as planned. If you are interested in helping us financially, please contact Pastor Richard Barcellos at (661) 609-3450 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
In Christ, and for His glory alone,
